As we approach this week’s holiday, it is traditional to think about all the things we are thankful for and to remember those less fortunate. We know that hunger is an issue at NMSU and on campuses across the nation. So, we are encouraging you to consider donating to Aggie Cupboard, which provides food assistance to the NMSU and DACC community, including our students, faculty and staff.
Every $25 donation allows Aggie Cupboard to give a Thanksgiving bag to a member of our community. Last week, the need for assistance outpaced Aggie Cupboard’s resources. Nearly 120 clients requested food assistance, but only 35 clients received a Thanksgiving bag.
For more information on Aggie Cupboard or to donate, please visit https://aggiecupboard.nmsu.edu/. Also, El Caldito soup kitchen, located at 999 W. Amador Avenue in Las Cruces, will provide free Thanksgiving meals on Thursday, Nov. 28 from 1-3 p.m.
We also remind everyone that Dec. 3 is Giving Tuesday – our daylong campaign to raise funds to benefit our students and the entire NMSU system. As in years past, the center of activity will be at Corbett Center Student Union’s Aggie Lounge. Please think about the best way you might be able to support the work of the NMSU system.
Lastly, we announce that Monday, Dec. 23 has become an opportunity for us to conserve energy. With the many who have already scheduled time off, and since the semester is over, we have an opportunity not only to conserve energy but to allow our community to have one more day off. More details will come as to how employees will need to mark this day on their leave reports and time sheets.
We hope all of you enter into the season being thankful. We are certainly thankful for your dedicated service to New Mexico State University.
