On Saturday October 20 at 11:00 am, the Otero Room on the first floor of the Corbett Center Student Union will open for early voting for voters registered in Doña Ana County. In recognition of the importance of voting, the Associated Students of NMSU (ASNMSU) invites eligible voters to cast their ballots on Tuesday, October 23 from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Anybody who misses that event can still vote at Corbett Center at the following times:
- Tuesday through Saturday from October 23 until November 3, from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm, providing eleven days for early voting on the Las Cruces campus.
- Election Day, Tuesday, November 6: open for voting from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm.
Corbett Center has served as a voting convenience center in past elections, open to all Doña Ana County voters on Election Day. In the 2014 mid-term elections, nearly 700 votes were cast at Corbett Center, and this number doubled in the 2016 election. This year, ASNMSU is hoping to increase those totals and demonstrate the value of having both early and election day voting on campus. With the increased number of days Corbett will be open for voting, this seems achievable. Last year, nearly 5,500 Doña Ana County residents were students at NMSU, and we employ over 3,000 faculty and staff.
I encourage everybody to learn about the issues that will be on the ballot during this election. Two General Obligation Bonds will provide NMSU with resources to better support our mission as a land-grant university. GO Bond B supports libraries all over New Mexico, and GO Bond D will benefit NMSU by providing state-of-the-art facilities to support education and research related to biomedical research, food science, and animal nutrition and feed manufacturing. Our community colleges also benefit from both of these bonds.
As always, I invite you to send feedback to President.Floros@nmsu.edu.
